George Gilbert was one of the pioneers of the British cycle industry and the Centaur Cycle Co was one of the world’s leading bicycle manufacturers. This Facebook group is dedicated to the memory and appreciation of this top manufacturer of quality bicycles (and later motorcycles) between 1876 and 1910.
The first bicycles sold by George Hendee, who went on to make Hendee Mfg Co Indian motorcycles in the USA, were 1894 Centaur ‘King of Scorchers’ rebadged as the ‘Hendee Silver King’. I’ve recreated one of the Hendee Silver King’s early advertisements to commemorate this trans-Atlantic link with Centaur.
